Before/After Photos of House : : September 5, 2010

We moved in at the end of March, and we've (mostly me, Kelly) been pretty busy painting and decorating the house. The master bedroom was NAVY blue (very dark as you can imagine). It took 4 coats of primer to get the blue out of the room. After priming, Mom, Ed and I did a "faux" finish technique called ragging. It took a long time to finish but it was well worth it.

The dining room was also very dark PURPLE with a black and gold Egyptian looking border. This room only took 2 coats of primer, then Mom, Peter, Kristen and I painted the upper part of the walls "whipping cream" and the bottom "cherries jubilee" (deep red). Pete also added an oak colored chair rail to match the rest of the woodwork in the downstairs. Much brighter, and much more inviting. (sidenote: I love the sliding doors in this room!)

Pete's office was the next project. Don't ever put velcro strips on the walls - I had the hardest time taking them off (we think the previous owners had baby things hanging on them). The room was stark white so any color would be good. I chose "Perisian taupe" to compliment the cherry finish wood of the desk and bookcase, then hung some great "manly" pictures, but will be adding a few more. But the goal was accomplished - a professional looking place where Pete can work comfortably and even have customers (of his website business) come if they need to.

Mom, Peter and Kristen also helped me paint the living room. Those photos will be up soon - we're getting a fireplace put in and Pete thinks the room looks a little bare right now so he's holding off on taking them for now.

I'll be tackling the bathroom next, I think. It's stark white, but has a beautiful tiled floor. I'm thinking a light taupe or cream - you'll see it up here when it's done. Then it's the attic. It's a finished room and pretty big, and there's some "Pete work" to be done on it. The carpet will be replaced (it's all stained), and some drywall needs to be redone. Then it'll be my turn to paint - neutral, probably. The biggest project will be the kitchen. We want to put a new floor in, paint, new countertops and new hardware on the cabinets and drawers. Whew! Well, it'll be a lot of work but definitely worth it. So, all in all, we're about half done with the painting and decorating stuff.
