Our First Fireplace! : : September 7, 2010 |
| We went to Columbus this past Sunday with our friends Lorne and Jen to do some shopping. The guys went to Lowe's for a little while while Jen and I stayed at the mall. We met up again with some very exciting news - Lowe's had a fireplace in stock similar to the one we'd been looking at buying off of the internet for the same price. Getting it in the car, however, wasn't as easy as finding the fireplace. You see, the four of us had driven in Lorne and Jen's Honda sedan (4 seater) and the fireplace came in 3 boxes. We had to get a tapemeasure to measure the trunk of the car to make sure box #1 would fit. It would. Box #2 was small and could fit on the floor. But box #3 had to go in the backseat with Jen and me. So it laid the entire way across the seat with Jen sitting Indian-style and me with my feet flung over the top so that my feet were right next to Pete's head. It was just a tad bit of an uncomfortable 45 minute ride home (my feet fell asleep 2x), but we were so excited to have our fireplace for Christmas! Jen insisted that we buy it even though we'd be uncomfortable - it's nice to have friends who are so excited for you - enough to sit that way the whole ride home. Pete and I set up the fireplace the next day and it looks great! The oak of the mantle matches pretty well with the oak woodwork in the house. We're still looking for a heating guy to come out and help Pete hook up the gas line, but it'll be done before Christmas! Edit: just an update that I (Pete) did all the gas work myself. The supplies cost about $35 at home depot and installation took about an hour (including drilling a hole in the floor for the gas pipe). |
